City Hall Public Art Project: “Flowing Together”

October 2024

The NAHF commissioned Colorado sculptor Jodie Bliss to install a suspended sculpture in the main lobby of the new City of Northglenn City Hall. The lobby is a large open area partially open to the second level above and connected to Council Chambers, the two community rooms and the main offices for city staff and leadership.

The sculpture includes four native trees to Colorado, that also represent the four seasons. Two dimensional trunks of the trees turn three-dimensional as they move up the walls to the ceiling. Branches, with organic spheres, then reach across the ceiling mixing tree types and seasons. The large-scale sculpture is made of steel and glass. Young visitors are prompted to look up and see if they can find a small bird in each season!

The sculpture was installed July-August of 2024 in time for the Grand Opening Celebrations on October 13, 2024.

Lobby Sculpture Project: “Illumination”

October 2021

This one-of-a-kind public art piece highlights the lobby of the Parsons Theatre, part of the new Northglenn Recreation Center, Senior Center and Theatre. Intricate pieces of colored and frosted metal and acrylics make up the 600-pound piece. “I want to create a sense of celebration in the Parsons Theatre lobby. A celebration of life and of creativity. A blossoming of ideas,” said commissioned artist Mark Aeling of MGA Sculpture Studio. “Illumination” honors the Columbine, Colorado’s state flower, and achieves the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation’s (NAHF) goal of adding a powerful and memorable public art installation to the new facility. Patrons are able to see it from outside the lobby’s glass entrance.

The sculpture was installed September of 2021 in time for our Grand Opening Celebration on October 9, 2021.

N-Line Horse Sculptures

Northglenn Thornton Sentinel

Northglenn turns to wired horses to decorate N-Line station – Murals, sculptures to go up in September before train’s debut

New artwork designed to decorate one of Metro Denver’s newest train stations will harken back to the early days of transportation.

“Horses have always been one of the original forms of transportation,” said Michael Stricker, cultural programs supervisor for the City of Northglenn and director for the Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation. “We are celebrating all of these forms of transportation throughout the ages, all of it anchored with the horse.”

JUNE 2020

The long-awaited transit station at 112th and York has a personalized touch.  Through an agreement between the City of Northglenn, the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation and RTD, Northglenn muralist Jerry Jaramillo’s work was installed on two large cabinets on the site.  Mr. Jaramillo created a series of painted murals that were digitized, printed and installed.  In addition to the murals, sculptor Jeff Best’s work will also be installed on the site.  Salvere, a scale creation of a draft horse from barbed wire, was the 2020 People’s Choice Art on Parade winner.  That piece, along with a new, commissioned sculpture depicting transportation throughout history, will also be installed at the RTD stop.  We are proud to showcase art at this station, helping create a unique identity that is illustrative of Northglenn.

Webster Lake Promenade “Native Grasses”

FEBRUARY 2018

As early as 2000, the Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) indicated in its Strategic Plan that it would budget for a future monumental sculpture at 120th and Community Center Drive. As the Webster Lake Promenade came to fruition, the NAHF and City approached Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority and Hawkins Development about partnering on a large-scale project. Hawkins Development generously provided the location and all organizations came together to form the Selection Committee. After 98 submissions, an extensive selection process, nationally known CJ Rench Design Studio was selected to create the sculpture. Artist CJ Rench had proposed 18 to 25 foot tall native grasses made of steel stocks and acrylic seeds. On a cold day in February 2018, the sculptures were installed around the detention pond at Webster Lake Promenade. The “Native Grasses,” based on actual Colorado native grasses, was generously funded by the NAHF, City of Northglenn, and Northglenn Urban Renewal Authority.
