Northglenn Youth Theatre

The Northglenn Youth Theatre (NYT) has been providing youth the opportunity to perform in professional live theatrical shows since 1994.  Each year, NYT mounts two large productions performed at the DL Parsons Theatre. NYT has received numerous local and national awards, and has had over 1000 participants!

The mission of NYT is to strive to provide youth in our community the opportunity to explore the world of theatrical performance through professional instruction and hands-on experience, all the while encouraging children to expand their talents and cultivate a life-long love for the arts. NYT is also committed to providing family-friendly staged entertainment for our community.

NYT receives support from the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation, SCFD, the city of Northglenn and private sponsorships.

Update to Big the Musical

They say that character is built through challenge.  The cast of Northglenn Youth Theatre”s Big the Musical has certainly been working on developing theirs since the COVID-19 restrictions intercepted what would have normally been a rigorous rehearsal process.  This character development has branched off in new directions…and they’re up for it!
Director Kimberly Jongejan, has been hosting Facebook live rehearsals using LEGO people and wooden blocks to forge ahead with blocking.  Choreographer Angila Waldman has been posting videos that break down the dances so the kids can keep practicing.  And Tech Director Christopher Waller was even able to don his Santa hat and deliver show t-shirts to cast members.
“The hope is that we’ll be able to get the show up on the stage as soon as it’s safe to be back,” Kimberly quips hopefully.  “We’ve all been working hard and something like this gives us motivated focus and anticipation.  It keeps us connected and engaged.  Doing a production is as much about the journey and teamwork as it is about the performance itself.  Our kids have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with this particular journey, and I’m so eager to see what emerges as we progress.”
The show, originally slated to open on April 17th, has yet to be rescheduled.  However, the Northglenn Arts team is at the ready if the green light is given for the cast and crew to get their moment on stage.
