Enion Pelta-Tiller Bio
Violinist, singer, and composer Enion Pelta-Tiller is a musical free spirit who moves fluently and fluidly through jazz, bluegrass, Brazilian music, and anything else she can get her hands on. Long known as one of the creative forces behind celebrated progressive folk group Taarka, with whom she has released 8 studio albums, she is also in demand as an improvising fiddler by groups at the forefront of the national bluegrass and jazz scenes. Pelta-Tiller is also recognized for her solo ventures, which bring together her love of folk music and jazz in intriguing combinations. Music has taken her all over the globe, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and China Television Station Studios in Shenzhen, China to Tiny Desk in Washington, DC and Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado, to perform with artists as diverse as Linda Ronstadt, Ron Miles, and John Cowan. Pelta-Tiller is highly sought after as an educator, teaching at fiddle camps and music schools around the world, including Mark O’Connor’s Strings Conference and the Escola de Musica Folk e Tradicional in Vigo, Spain, as well closer to home, at the University of Colorado in Boulder and in Denver. Pelta-Tiller trained classically at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Her mentorship with fiddler Darol Anger and formative years spent playing fiddle tunes and Django jazz with her guitarist father, in addition to her classical studies set the stage for a career that continually pushes the boundaries of genre. Pelta-Tiller plays extended range violins, including a 5-string violin made in 2006 by the late John Sullivan and a 6-string violin made in 2021 by Eric Aceto. She endorses Kaplan strings, Peluso Microphones and Grace Design Pre-amps.
