More about the Heart
The City of Northglenn is embarking on the second phase of it’s new Civic Campus, the construction of a new City Hall complete with 32,600 square feet of space including administrative offices, new Council Chambers, two large public lobbies, two community rooms and a renewed sustainability commitment – the facility will be Net Zero, meaning it will generate as much energy as it uses, and will be the first municipal building in Colorado to achieve a CORE Green Building Rating!
Northglenn Arts and the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation (NAHF) are overjoyed that the City is including in this gorgeous new facility a brand new art commission to showcase the City’s ongoing commitment to the impact of art within our community!
More about the Art
NAHF has commissioned Colorado sculptor Jodie Bliss to install a suspended sculpture in the main lobby of the new City Hall. This area will be at the core of the day-to-day services of the new City Hall – such as ballot drop-off, utility billing, building permits, and much more. The lobby is a large open area partially open to second level above and connected to Council Chambers, the two community rooms and the main offices for city staff and leadership. The estimated opening date of the new City Hall is fall 2024. The sculpture will be finished and installed before the opening.
The new City Hall building will be organic and flowing, using environmentally conscious, sustainable materials. For the art commission the NAHF wanted to create a strong connection between the outside natural world to the indoor space, the lobby, that welcomes residents and visitors – with the ultimate goal of giving the space a sense that they’ve arrived at the “people’s house”.
The sculpture will include four native trees to Colorado that also represent the four seasons. The two dimensional trunks of the trees turn three-dimensional as they move up the walls to the ceiling. Branches, with organic spheres, then reach across the ceiling mixing tree types and seasons. The large-scale sculpture is made of steel and glass. Young visitors will be prompted to look up and see if they can find a small bird in each season!
A scale model of the sculpture is available for public viewing in the current Northglenn City Hall.
